The backwaters thread quietly past our garden. Glide out at sunrise on a kayak before the light hits, drift later on a country boat past kingfishers and egrets, or simply sit with tea and watch the day pass.

Begin with yoga in the open garden as the birds wake up. Later, our host arranges authentic Ayurvedic treatments at trusted local centres — a tradition Kerala has practiced for two thousand years.

We strung a hammock between the trees out front, where the lawn meets the water. Take a book from the shelf, kick off your shoes, and let an afternoon disappear. The breeze off the river does the rest.
